They say, “Eyes are the windows to the soul…”! How very right is this. No matter what expression you carry on your face, your eyes give away the reality. They show it when you’ve had a difficult day or a sleepless night. They give away when you’ve shed a few tears, or have had a hearty laugh. And so they really are a mirror of one’s soul.
Taking care of eyes is something we all completely neglect, me included. We stare at TV and laptop screens all day long, and while away our free time bent on our smartphones, chatting away or playing Candy Crush. Add to that a few late nights a week, and unhealthy food, and what we are left with is glaring dark circles. Us bespectacled folks have even a harder time, as wearing glasses for so long makes the problem of dark circles even worse (dunno the clinical reason, but my hypothesis is that the skin gets exposed to lesser oxygen due to the glasses 😛 )
I have had the problem of dark circles for years. While earlier I didn’t get bothered as much, now I feel was high time I started taking care of this problem, as it would just get worse, sadly.
I didn’t want to spend a bomb on my first ever under-eye cream, so I brought home his little tube by Himalaya. So did it do anything at all for me? Let’s find out…
Ingredients and Directions for Use:
Packaging: It comes in a plastic tube very similar to the Himalaya lip balm we all know and have used. In fact, if both the tubes are lying around you, it is quite hard to tell them apart, so exercise caution and don’t use this eye cream on your lips! The tube is sturdy, with a screw cap. It has a very narrow opening, perfect to dispense tiny amounts that you’ll need on the under eye area. I’m glad that the packing is so practical, prevents wastage and helps avoid contamination by targeted application, as you don’t need to dip hands in a pot. The tube came in a cardboard box with product details.
Claims:
My Experience: As I told you, I had been looking for an eye cream, and after searching high and low, I decided to start with a common, affordable brand. This one claimed to reduce dark circles (which I didn’t believe with all my heart) and fine lines (which I had hopes for).
I incorporated this in my daily regimen, and have been using it quite religiously for just over a month. I have been using it in the morning before dabbing on some BB cream on my under eyes (well, I do need something to hide my dark circles..) and in the evening after removing my makeup (which is mostly, just kajal).
Appearance and Fragrance: It is a fleshy colored cream, but leaves no color on the skin. Thankfully, it is completely free of any fragrance.
Efficacy: You need a minute amount of the cream. The narrow nozzle helps to squeeze out the correct amount quite easily.
The cream is quite easy to spread, and not very greasy. It absorbs within a minute of massaging, and that is a very good thing. I always try to use my ring finger to gently massage this cream on my sunken under eye area.
Immediately after applying this cream, I find that the under-eye area feels ever so slightly pulled. It is not an unpleasant sensation, mind you. It feels like the cream is working.
But now, coming to the most important point: did this help in reducing my dark circles or fine lines?
The answer, as expected, is NO.
It hasn’t reduced my dark circles even a bit. They are as dark as they were a month back 🙁 Well, I expected so… I have read hundreds of reviews for eye creams, and none of them seem to work even a tiny bit on dark circles, even the high-end ones, so I am not quite angry with this humble, cheap tube by Himalaya. Still, I had my weak expectations, and they were sloshed away…
The thing that made me sad was that it didn’t do anything for the fine lines that I have under my eyes. They are just the same. I had felt that a cream specifically targeted for the under eye area might help me out in reducing these lines. But sadly, it didn’t work.
FFS Rating: 2.5/5
Price: Rs 165 for 15 ml
Where to Buy: I got this from a hypermart. You can find this one easily anywhere. It is also available online.
Pros and Cons:
PROs:
- Sufficiently moisturizing
- Not very greasy or sticky
- Absorbs quickly
- Practical packing: the nozzle gives out just the required amount of cream
- Very affordable
- Easily available in stores and online
CONs:
- Did nothing at all for dark circles or fine lines, and this was supposed to be its main job!
- Loaded with parabens
- Well, it isn’t doing anything that my regular face cream can’t do, so what’s the point? 😛
Repurchase: Nope! I’ll use up this tube though…
Final Word: An under eye cream that only moisturizes well, and nothing apart from that. If you are looking for something that can help your dark circles or fine lines, this can disappoint you. Alas, my search for a miraculous under-eye cream..continues…
I use Olay eye cream which is quite good and it helps to lighten the under eye area. I have been using it since 2 years and my dark circles are more lighter now.
Well that’s a suggestion I can use! Thanks ☺ I’m looking for something that really works..will definitely pick up Olay next time 💕
You so welcome, I am sure you will like it and see some effects happy weekend
😊 hopefully it would help my dark circles! Happy weekend to you too🎉🎊
Don’t you just hate when you have such high hopes for a skin care product and it lets you down? At least you didn’t spend a lot. Nice to see you Poorva!
Oh yes I’ve been let down..but yeah the low price tag is the saving grace! I’ve recently become a bit conscious of my dark circles, and have been looking for fast solutions..this one promised to work in 4 weeks..all that’s gone to waste 😖
I have dark circles
too, and I wear glasses. I recently did a review of Almay’s Wake Up concealer. It works really well, and it was cheap. Have a great weekend!
