FFS 10 Second Giveaway: The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector is bad-smelling, but an unbelievably effective product that heals chapped hands in one night flat. Because you can’t really bear to use it during the day with that smell.
Being a skincare fanatic, hand creams, just like lip balms, are my favourite products. I just can’t resist getting hold of pretty-looking metallic tubes that promise healthy-looking hands! Though honestly, I end up using hand sanitizers more than the hand creams in my stash, because there’s a thing called laziness. I bought The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector ages ago (evident from the completely empty tube in the pictures) and now finally reviewing it.

Packaging: TBS Hemp Hand Protector comes in a metallic tube, just like all its hand creams. I have the older packaging, which was made completely of metal (and hence, was hard to use as you reach the end of the tube because it is completely metallic, imagine a tube of Boroline). However, I dropped by in a TBS store recently and found that they have revived the packaging of this hand cream too, so now it still remains metallic, but the tube also has some plastic to the metal making the tube softer and also, making it easier to press the tube. You can check out the images of Honeymania hand cream, because that is the stuff the new tube is made of now. TBS hand cream tubes are always travel friendly, as I have travelled with them far and wide. Some find it hard to use because of the tiny cap and all, but personally I like it.

Color and Scent: The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector is pale, herby green in color, and reminiscent of herby concoctions. Coming to the scent, it is the only bad thing about this product. I can describe it as medicinal, herby and peculiar. I tried using it initially at my place of work but the smell is quite strong and persists in even after washing hands, and I found it quite bothersome even though I am quite sturdy in terms of tolerating smells.
Texture, Effectiveness and My Experience: Coming to the texture, it is creamy and smooth, but completely non-oily, hence even if you do use it in your office, it won’t leave grease marks anywhere. You need only a very small quantity to cover your hands with enough product, and in these terms, it spreads very well. It leaves the hands immediately dreamily smooth and soft (note that these two terms are different and this cream helps in achieving both). I have used it on extremely dry hands as overnight hand protector and I found my hands pretty repaired the following morning. I would highly recommend The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector to anyone who works hard with their hands and need something solid and sturdy to protect them with. I feel the hemp oil is the magic ingredient here (and also the culprit for the odd odour) that heals the skin so well. Had the product not smelled so offensively bad, it would have been the only hand cream I would ever buy.
Price: Rs 850 for 100 ml of product
FFS Rating: 4/5 (deducting only 1 point despite the peculiar odour)
Where to Buy: TBS stores across the world
PROs and CONs:
PROs:
- Highly effective
- Really heals dry hands
- Very small quantity needed per use
- Non-greasy and non-oily
- A tube lasts several months depending on how frequently you use it
- Remains effective even after a wash or two

CONs:
- The smell is offensive!
- Somewhat expensive
Final Verdict: I will repurchase The Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector because no matter how it smells, this stuff works. Like magic.
