Layer’r Wottagirl Body Splash Review, Price, Buy Online: Secret Crush, Mystic Island, Vanilla Twist Body Mists

While my friends sitting in Americas and Europe and the western parts of the world are embracing summers with their arms and hearts wide open, we living closer to the equator (Tropic of Cancer..to be geographically correct) have a rough time in this sweltering heat. All day long, we either curse the heat or crave something cold and refreshing. This is how we spend our summer in India!

One major con of living in such a hot, humid country is that no perfume, no matter what luxury brand you buy, no matter how exotic and strong it may seem, just fades away with beads of perspiration…So you might be smelling oh-so-amazing when you leave home, but as soon as you board the metro or hail an auto, all signs of smelling good just go poof! What to do in such situations then, my dearies? You carry these cute plastic bottles of body splash to rescue you! Let’s get to the review now!!

Ingredients and Directions of Use:

Variants: When I bought these a few months back, there were only these 3 scents available: Mystic Island, Secret Crush and Vanilla Twist. On checking their website now, I find they have launched more! These are Emerald Fusion, Crimson Chic and Fresh Citrus. For now, let’s focus on the ones I have!

This is how the company describes them:

Secret Crush: A seductive fusion of ripe oranges and lemons, enveloped in the classic floral sweetness of jasmine.

Mystic Island: A luxurious blend of musk, bitter orange, lemon and woody notes, Mystic island is a mysterious, evocative fragrance crafted for the sultry goddess in you.

Vanilla Twist: A fun, flirty concoction of warm vanilla notes and a hint of coconut, Vanilla Twist is a delicate dreamy fragrance with rich, sensuous accents and irresistible charm.

Packaging: These come in sturdy, clear plastic bottles, which look very sleek and nice. Frankly, it can give the big luxury brands a run for their money! The spray works fine. The bottle caps could have been better, as these tend to open up in the bag. Otherwise, a thumbs up! Plus, I love the color theme: pink for secret crush, blue for mystic island and honey yellow for vanilla 🙂

A body splash is something that you use on the whole body immediately after a bath to keep you smelling great. However, I like to use them in ways more than this! I like to keep one in my bag to keep splashing on my pulses a few times a day to keep me fresh when I’m outdoors. I even use it on my clothes like a perfume. Of course, I have used these quickly after taking a shower. I find these quite multi-purpose. Plus, I’m not very fond of deodorants. So these are one of my favourite things to carry!

I’ll give you a mini review of all these three variants:

Secret Crush: Yes, this is my favourite out of all three! One reason is that the bottle is pink *wink*! The fragrance is a strong citrusy and fruity, perfect for a hot, sweaty day. It totally manages to uplift my mood! I have also used this in winters, to spice up a dull cold day, and it stayed on me all day long in the cold season. I generally don’t follow the warm scent in winter and floral/fruity in summer rule; I use whatever I want! Yeah, but I try using caramel/chocolaty and vanilla scents mostly in winters as they get too heavy and smother you in the summer…. Well, continuing with the review, I find that in summers, this one lasts for about 3 hours max only if you are outdoors. It may last even less depending on how much you sweat. If you remain indoors, especially in air conditioned environment, then this can last upto 5 hours, as I can detect the scent on me even in the evening. But yes, at the end of the day, I can smell a hint of it on my clothes. This one clearly rivals Victoria’s Secret Body Mists, as the scent of this one is slightly reminiscent of Wild Scarlet/Mango Temptation body mist.

FFS Rating: 4.5/5

Mystic Island: This is my second favourite. It is a sweet aquatic scent, which is quite fresh and very summery. It does seem to have slightly fruity notes to it, but the basic scent is aquatic. I really like it a lot! The lasting power is similar to Secret Crush. I think I would be using it a lot when I’d marred by humidity in the coming monsoon season. Also, I feel that the name ‘Mystic Island’ is really well chosen! Way to go, Layerr! I hadn’t expected such a good formula, plus nice product names too!

FFS Rating: 4/5

Vanilla Twist: You can see, I have used up almost half of this one, as I had been trying to use it as much as I could in the winter. Well, I do use it sometimes in the summer, but not as much. This one has a saccharin, honey-like sweetness to it, but I wouldn’t call it a true vanilla. I can’t detect much of coconut in the scent (thankfully!). It has slightly less staying power compared to the other variants.

FFS Rating: 3.75/5

Price: I bought these online, as I couldn’t find them in stores. I got this set of three for some Rs 540 (I don’t remember the exact amount). Individually, these come for Rs 180-195 approx.

Where to buy: You can buy these online. This set of three is available at Amazon here.

Pros and Cons:

PROs:

  1. Great scents, that feel quite similar to high end body mists
  2. Decent staying power for a body mist
  3. Quite affordable
  4. Sturdy bottles
  5. Travel friendly packing
  6. Cute names!

CONs:

  1. Haven’t seen these in any stores yet, only available online

I couldn’t find any more cons, I found these pretty great!

Final Word: If you’re bored to death of using deodorants and want something nice and girly for a change, these are worth a try! There is a scent for everyone, with fruity, aquatic and sweet ones available. I would like to see some strong floral scents from Layerr! I wish these became easily available in stores, so I could try the new variants before buying them 🙂
